day 1: Flight to Uliastai

We have an early flight to Uliastai, Zavkhan province. The two hours of flight lands in the very beautiful “Donoi valley” in the morning. Our local transportation picks you up there and drive to Khar Nuur. We will meet our camel breeding family in the afternoon. Overnight will be in a ger camp.

Day 2: Camel Riding at Khar Nuur Lake

We will start the camel riding around the lake and along the enormous sand dunes. Khar Nuur occupies a dale in the Khangai Mountains to the East from the Great Lakes Depression. It is located to west side around 1000 km from Ulaanbaatar capital city. The lake is surrounded by huge sand dunes in the north and mountain hills in the southern shore. Our camel guide will take us in the right path to show all beautiful places during our journey. We will as well learn about two humped Bactrian camels and how to take care of them such as watering, preparing saddles as nomads do in their daily life. Overnight will be tented camping at the shore of the lake.

Day 3: Camel Riding continues at Khar Nuur Lake

We will continue riding the camel’s further north of Khar Nuur, where mass of sand dunes blowing slowly with the wind. We do several short stops to enjoy the scenery and absorb the picturesque moments.

Day 4: Camel Riding to Mukhart Oasis

We are exploring the uniqueness of Mongolia, a mixture of desert, grassland and great lake. Several sites of the sand dunes harbour small or big rivers. The most interesting one is Mukhart River arises beneath the sand dunes and flows throughout the desert and finally join Zavkhan River. There is an option to climb dunes and hike around the river.

Day 5: Camel Riding to Senjit Rock

Today we will ride to Senjit Rock, the stone gate that has a shape of granite rocky arch located on a top of hill. In ancient times the rock used to be solid but the strong wind carved the gate into today’s formation over millions of years. The size of the gate is 6m in width, 3.5m in height and a nature beauty of the area.

Day 6: Camel Riding to Tuvkhush Mountain

Tuvkhush Mountain is located in the west south side of Black Lake, also considered natural beauty of Zavkhan Province due to its scenic formation. In the afternoon we will set up our campsite and overnight here.

Day 7: Camel Riding towards Khar Nuur Lake

Today we start go back to the camp. Our camel guide will find shortcut because we have already passed quite long distance from the camp site. The journey back to the lake will be semi-desert plain with green bushes and granite rocky mountain hills.

Day 8: Camel Riding back to the Ger Camp

Our last day of the camel riding will end once we arrive at the camp. The camel guide prepares the animals for way back home. In the evening we will take some rest.

Day 9: Flight back to Ulaanbaatar

It is time for us to leave the beautiful place and take a flight back to the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. You may enjoy the free afternoon to catch up all the places you haven’t visited yet. You might as well check the beautiful cultural show enjoy the colourful and rhythmic Mongolian dance, throat singing & admire the contortionists.
